Being Bipolar VO

Being bipolar is like being blind,

You can’t see the good in you,

even when others do

There are highs and there are lows,

The problem is when they will come nobody knows.

The highs are unbelievable,

Anything and everything seems achievable.

I get overactive on social media,

Posting pics almost every hour.

All systems fire on all cylinders,

And I’m up till late at night

Or up in the wee hours of the morning,

Which don’t seem right

The lows creep up on me gradually,

From overall lethargy, to a foggy mind,

then coping with even the simplest of tasks

Becomes a grind.

I lose my confidence and struggle to hold a conversation,

I’d rather recede to the background and draw the curtain.

Being a trained counsellor my wife,

Is especially attuned to my strife.

She has been able, to shed much light

I'm thankful for her support throughout this fight.

I've also found out about MBCT,

It’s proven to be the best remedy.

To improve awareness of my thoughts and emotions,

Unfortunately, I lack consistency which causes a commotion.

Another great checklist is SMEDMERTS!

S-Sleep

M-meds

E-eat

D-Doctor

M-mindfulness

E-excercise

R-routine

T-tools

S-support system

I’m going to break the rhyme

to say this arrived just in time (via Ellen Forney on Ted Talks)

Also thanks to Pri,

I got to know about bipolarindia.com for free.

The health warriors WhatsApp group,

Which helps me when I find myself in a soup.

This project ain’t done,

I’ve just begun.

If you’ve reached this far,

Means either you care about mental health or me

or have a very high tolerance level for amateur poetry.

Thank you for listening

Pls say a prayer for my family

They’ve really stood by me
