7 Wimbledon titles on the trot.

45 consecutive wins.

35 out of 71 slams won.

The stats were ALL in favour of Nole aka Novak Djoykovic against the newly crowned Prince of tennis Carlos Alcaraz who ironically started his own tennis journey idolising the Serb from a little village called El Palmar in Murcia, Spain.

Little did he know that before his 21st birthday he would be duking it out at the all England club for a chance to be the youngest player in the Open era to win the tournament and also decimate Novaks 10year unbeaten record at Centre Court.

Sundays Men’s Wimbledon final was a suspense thriller like no other. The only one who couldn’t partake of the action despite being within close proximity was Security Jack (which in my opinion was a very cruel marketing gimmick!)

While Novak comfortably won the first set 6-1, to my mind he lost the match and his concentration when started mocking the audience for supporting the underdog Alcaraz. Carlos was more than happy to have the stadium rooting for him, but didn’t let it go to his head as he pumped his fists for winners and admonished himself and apologised to his family for missed opportunities, like he was at a tennis lesson and was aware of his family’s emotions. He kept this connection throughout the game while Novak tried to vent his anger at every opportunity (at the crowd instead of himself).

Twitter was sharply divided but overwhelming support seemed to be for Novak until as one person put it “started playing more games than tennis” with the 8 minute long loo break and destruction of his racket. It will be interesting to see if his sponsors Asics and Lacoste reprimand him for such unsportsmanlike like behaviour.

Even after 4 hours of grunt work from both players, the scoreline looked like the match had just begun! That’s how evenly it was fought.

But finally, Carlos was able break Novak in the fifth set and serve for the match and HISTORY was made!

Sports and music can inspire global catharsis like no other (excluding religion of course) Last night every 20 year old around the globe (and even some 45 year olds) would have felt like they can decimate their own Goliaths! All they need to do is stay focussed and work hard! Dreams really do come true. Can’t wait to see what Carlos does next!
